Bullying No More - breaking my silence

I have not spoken about my own experience as an adult with bullying and harassment until now. I worked for a Telecommunications company over nine years. During the past two years it was a tough road to say the least. I experienced discrimination, harassment and bullying. The details are not important but the treatment of human beings is.

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I speak my mind and advocate for fair and equal treatment. In this day and age any company who tolerate this behavior is living in the Stone Age. I filed three complaints with Human Resources with no action taken. But, we all know that HR does what they can to protect the company. The management staff in my office treated their employees like children. But, it became a totally different environment after we lost of VP of eight years. I had so much respect for him and enjoyed working for him. The women went through hell being treated like pieces of dirt. Only the ones who have no backbone or respect for themselves still work there. I can remember during training the head of the Ethics Committee did a dog and pony show. He himself sent a clear message of intimidation and the consequences if you take action against the company. The company has had a number of lawsuits against them and you would think they would learn once and for all.

I’m a breast cancer survivor and never once gave up or felt sorry for myself. But, the last two years took a toll on me emotionally and lead me to leave my employer. I always take responsibility for my actions as we are all accountable for ourselves. I thank God this battle is over and I’m free from bullying, discrimination and harassment.

Now, I can focus on a career that advocates for victims rights along with Empowerment. Always stand up for yourself regardless of the situation. Demand respect and fair treatment no matter what. . Be kind to yourself and know when it’s time to walk away. Those who mistreat, harm, and disrespect fellow human beings have to live with themselves and their own ugly truth.

Online Dating Advice

One of my closest friends is taking a shot at Online Dating again. Her stories bring me back to several earlier posts. Dating can feel like an interview at times. But, how much information should you reveal before meeting? Why do people feel the need to talk about other people they met online? Being negative is the worst thing you can do. Think about what you reveal and what it says about you.

My advice is just make a date for coffee or a drink instead. I know we get excited at the thought of finding love. Try and play it cool. Don’t call the other person and text them a thousand times before you even meet.

Bullying at any age is wrong

My wish for the New Year is that each of us remains true to ourselves. And, treat everyone as you would want to be treated without any exceptions. I see so many young adults online being bullies. In my eyes, it doesn’t matter if you are 12 or 80 years old.

Why do we tolerate this behavior? I believe strongly that if you are a bully or negative it is time to take a long hard look within yourself. YOU are the one with the problem! I have told my nieces that even when your peers say something mean and hurtful stand strong for you know the truth better than anyone.

Feel empowered and surround yourself with positive, honest and caring people. This includes school, work and love. Each of us deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.
